Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon Plans Show With His High School Jazz Band

Bon Iver leader Justin Vernon really seems like a good dude. Like a guy who’ll drive your drunk ass home and then bring over a dozen bagels at 2 p.m. the next day because he “was in the neighborhood.” A good guy to know.
Proof? Well, there’s all that overflowing empathy in his songs, sure, and he also recently contributed one of the best songs to that Dark Was the Night charity compilation and designed a T-shirt benefiting a women’s shelter for the Yellow Bird Project. But an upcoming event brings his good-guy-dom to a new level.
On April 19, Vernon will return to his alma mater, Eau Claire, Wisconsin’s Memorial High School to play with the school’s Jazz Ensemble I, according to the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram. The Duke Ellington-themed program in the auditorium (capacity: 1,464) will feature Vernon singing jazz standards accompanied by the ensemble as well as the ensemble playing backup on Bon Iver songs. (The Leader-Telegram reports that Vernon will write up sheet music specifically for the kids.) Vernon graduated from Memorial in 1999 and played guitar in Jazz Ensemble I.
As if that wasn’t awesome enough, proceeds from the special show will help enable the jazz band to attend this year’s “Essentially Ellington” competition in May at New York City’s Lincoln Center. As the Leader-Telegram reports, Vernon himself attended the competition with the Memorial High band back in 1999.
After that, Bon Iver hits the festival circuit this summer.
(Someone YouTube this show for us, plz.)
Thanks to Volume One (via Culture Bully) for the heads up!

I kind of agree with this. But at least Jewish psychosis doesn’t end with vomit all over you. (via jeremyk)
I just saw that you stole this from me jer, and the Irish don’t vomit; they fight.
Poor Milton must be rolling in his grave right now…
“While a few big firms, such as Wells Fargo and JP Morgan Chase, have curtailed their campaign giving, others are quietly doling out cash to select members of Congress, particularly those who serve on committees that oversee TARP.”
why is this surprising? congress & the obama administration have demonstrated an utter lack of foresight throughout this entire process. but then, i’m not naive enough (or too cynical, take your pick) to think this wasn’t part of the plan in the first place.
